UPDATE REFERENCES A FUTURE UPDATE

The sun is hot. Which doesn't matter much in the vacuum of space, but it also gives off dangerous amounts of radiation the closer you get to it. All ships, due to their native construction, have a standard resistance to this radiation under normal circumstances.

However, when attempting to travel at nearer distances to the sun, special mods are required to protect both the ship and passengers from the harmful radiation. These special mods have a Heat Resistance rating (HR).

HR Calculation

The amount of HR needed varies on how near you are to the Sun. The HR requirements kick in if the ship is less than 2,827 M from the sun.

The amount of HR needed increases as your ship gets closer to the sun.

Mercury

Traveling to Mercury requires 2,000 HR.

Obtaining HR Mods

HR mods can be acquired from Jupiter and Mercury.

Overview

The Heat Resistance (HR) attribute represents how well your ship is able to withstand the immense heat that is present near the Sun. Currently its only use is to be able to visit Mercury. In order to do that you need to get your Heat Resistance to or above the score of 2,000. You can increase your Heat Resistance through equipping Utility, Armor, Sensor, Weapon, and Shield Mods with the Heat Resistance attribute, which can most easily be found on Jupiter.

No ships come with a base Heat Resistance, with the exception of the JayCo Tanker at 2,000 Heat Resistance.

If you have 10,000 Mercury reputation, it is recommended to buy a Mercurean Trade Optimizer which is a utility mod that will meet the 2,000 Heat Resistance requirement to visit Mercury.
